Peter Fudge Gardens
Nurturing a growing business
Peter Fudge has been in the landscape architecture business for over 20 years. Heading up one of Australia’s leading garden design teams, his business creates beautiful outdoor spaces that ‘feed the soul’. Using timeless materials, considered planting and minimalist cues, Peter Fudge Gardens are the perfect balance of power and grace.
With such a strong design aesthetic, it was vital the business’ sense of style was reflected in their website, so they invited us to do a little landscaping of our own.
Of course, Peter’s gardens are the real heroes, so we used a minimalist grey background, clean typography and chose a sans serif of the font GT Walsheim, which has warm friendly curves. These simple, elegant choices meant the lush greenery and strong geometrics of the gardens in the photos really stood out. It’s a principle we applied to other elements of the site too, creating an abundance of space for a calm, relaxing browse of the pages, even on the product pages.
Big beautiful images in sliders, and simple browsing buttons echoed the sense of flicking through a luxury coffee table magazine, while links to similar gardens appeared alongside guiding the viewer on their journey.
From landscape, to a portrait
More than just a showcase for their stunning landscapes, the Peter Fudge site is where you’ll find posts from his popular blog, along with longer form articles that paint a portrait of the man and his team’s principles. We echoed the design principles of the main site on the blog pages, to make exploring Peter’s ideas, hints and tips, just as inspiring to his followers as his gardens – and of course, easy to share with their friends.
We made sure that the website was the same polished experience for mobile and tablet users, with device-specific designs, particularly on the garden pages and blog.
